October -
St Andrew's Night Dinner and Dance Cancelled
Owing to insufficient interest in the St Andrew's Night celebration that was due to be held this year on November 21st in Maxville, Glengarry Place for the Arts has reluctantly decided not to hold this heritage event. The GPA executive feels that 100 paying patrons are needed to make the occasion a success and, in recent years, we have not had this kind of support.

Although, all around the world, people will be observing the patron Saint of Scotland, this will not happen formally in Glengarry this year. Originally sponsored by the Glengarry Pipe Band, this event has taken place in the county since 1970.

Next year, if we can find more volunteers to assist us and if there is more evident public support, we will try again. If you wish to join the GPA or volunteer for any of our projects, please contact Julia Danskin (613-527-2724) or Maryanne Kampouris (613-527-3131 or mak@perfectvision.ca).

As a footnote, it has also come to our attention that Burns Night, usually hosted by the MacCulloch Dancers in January, has been cancelled for a similar lack of support from the community at large.

August -
Glengarry Heritage Day 2008 - Another Success
Despite the threat of rain, there was a good turnout for the GPA's 3rd annual celebration of Glengarry's Cultural Heritage. In the end the weather held off and the day of activities went off without a hitch.

The traditional "Ploughman's Lunch", served in the historic log Congregational Church (built in 1837), was in great demand again.

The program is available as a .pdf below. (To display it correctly, it is recommended that Celtic and Book Antiqua TrueType fonts are installed.)

GPA leases MacKinnon Hall
Glengarry Place for the Arts (GPA) would like to thank Gordon Presbyterian Church for entering into an agreement to lease the MacKinnon Hall in St-Elmo (3km north of Maxville) for the next year. The building will be used to provide a place for Celtic arts events. In this way we will fulfill both Reverend MacKinnon's wishes for the building and our own mandate.

The Gordon Presbyterian Church is famous for its association with the author, Ralph Connor.

We will keep you informed of our activities so that you know what events will be taking place in the Hall.

We are always looking for new courses and events that we can host. For more information, to let us know of interesting activities, or to enroll in one of our events, please contact us.
